All i found including metal can ones show transistor is cbe readingup the breadboard as shown. A transistor selector book woul;d be the easy way to check. Note the variants in pinouts (image from wikipedia): I'm thinking that in an ordinary grounded emitter setup, where one rather wants to know cbe and cbc, one could approximate it to cbe =.

But there are two different pinouts for the p2n2222a (a cbe pinout) and the pn2222 (ebc pinout.) so at least given my bc547 ignorance it seems at least possible in.
