For anyone who is interested, i've started a wiki page with some information about fixing broken cricut machines. Click on settings on the cricut and then advance through the screens until you get to multicut. It will give you the option of 2, 3 or 4 and then that is the value it will use when the multicut key is lit up. So it seems to be working now, but too many pieces to remove from the cut result, so i need to group more pixels together to make the cut pieces larger. I have debating upgrading to the zing.
